Our Move to Colorado

So finally, here is the update of our move to Colorado. It was a long, interesting and a little frustrating of a move. I will try to give you the short version, as I know you all don't have all day to listen to my stories. However, this is a good one, I think!

Ok, we left my parents house in Twin Falls, Idaho on Monday the 8th of October and drove to Pocatello to meet up with some family and friends. A quarter of a mile from our exit, I got a flat tire on the truck. Carl had already exited with the Uhaul and accidentally locked his keys in the Uhaul. So Kya and I sat by the side of the freeway waiting for our friends. A cop came and stayed with us until we had help. Which, luckily Carl was able to get the keys out, because one of the windows was rolled down just enough to jimmy the lock. Carl actually had a hanger in his backpack which he took out of the truck before getting out. Too weird! So we fixed the tire and after saying goodbye, we were on the road again toward Grace, Idaho, Carl's parents home.

We stayed the night, picked up our other furniture and left the next morning. Only this time, my mother-in-law wanted to make the rest of the move with us, so she caravaned behind us. She's so great.

This first part of the morning Kya rode with daddy in the Uhaul, which she loved. After lunch we switched and she was back in the truck with me watching "Nemo" (the only cartoon she actually likes to watch, because of the fish) or reading books. This was a long day of driving to Laramie, Wyoming, so she had about 30 minutes of fussing boredom. She's entitled that, she has been a trooper. This move was a bit tough on her considering she also broke her 7th tooth through in the same week. What a gal!

We stayed Tuesday night in Laramie at a hotel. Carl's aunt lives there and she and her family took us out to dinner. It was great to see them. Kya did not want to go to sleep at the hotel, so I ended driving around town until 10:30 pm, until she fell asleep. Almost three hours past bedtime.

Wednesday morning we got up and left the hotel around 10:00 and headed for the last day of driving. Arriving in Fort Collins with great time we met up with my aunt and uncle for lunch. It was really great to see them too. The last leg of the drive was through Denver to Colorado Springs. We were excited to get here and settled in. We went to the realtor's office first, signed the lease, made a few calls and got the key to our house. Another 20 or so minute drive and we arrived. It was a great house, cute and new and cozy. The lights and water weren't on so we call the realtor who was going to call the owner. Well, in the meantime our ward showed up at 5:30 to help us unpack the Uhaul. We were done by 7:30, it was great help and very nice people. The newsletter specialist was there taking pictures of it all and talking to me. Very nice.

Well, since the utilities were not on, our friends were so generous to allow us to stay at there house for the night, so we could get some showers in. Long day, needed showers.Thursday...the bad day...we got up and called the realtor to see about our utilities. She said, "I am so sorry, but you are going to have to find another house to live in".......WHAT!!! Needless to say we were in awe. Apparently, the landlord stopped paying utilities because the house was not being rented fast enough and she owed $1500.00 and they shut everything off until that is paid. She refuses to pay and the realtor does not feel it is there responsiblity. So we were stuck in the middle. We spent thursday until about 2:30, looking for a house, while my mother-in-law watched Kya at our friends house. We did find a town house closer in town and signed that lease. The realtor was bending over backwards to help us, probably afraid we would sue.Well, we called our ward back and asked for help again to load up the Uhaul. The amazing people they are...5:30 they were there with smiles on there faces and tissues to wipe my tears. Thank you to the Falcon Ward. We found out who our new ward would be, Carl called and asked for help from them and sure enough...9:30 pm, nine men showed up and had us unpacked in less than an hour. What amazing people! The church is true no matter where you go, and the people are always willing to serve. I love it. So now, we are here, we are safe and we are happy. Colorado Springs is a beautiful city and you all should come stay with us when ever you want. We love our family and friends and would love to have visitors.

So that is my story.
Here are a few pictures of our new townhouse.

Wow! I'm glad it all worked out in the end. Your place looks great. Where are all the boxes? You haven't been there long enough to not have boxes! :)

What a long exhausting trip. I'm glad you made it okay and good thing you found another house so quick. Is it around the same area as the other one? Isn't it true about the church though? Thank goodness for all those helping hands!

I can't believe the story! You guys are so patient! Your townhouse looks great though! I lived in Colorado Springs for a summer when I sold Living Scripture Videos. Well, we moved around alot so I was in Springs for like a month. It is gorgous! We went to a place called Garden of the Gods. It's really pretty. Anyway. Fun story and great house! We are still with FSA. I'm in charge of playgroups now. It's pretty fun. There have been lots of placements recently. Mostly couples getting their first baby. It't really cool. Anyway. Long comments!!

What a story, I was amazed as I heard it while it was happening. Four Uhaul loadings and unloadings is that corrrect? Way too many. I'm so glad your mother-in-law was with you, that had to help. How are things going? It's pretty quiet around here, I miss you guys but wow do I miss that little Kya, she is a special little gal. Hope to see you soon. I like the townhouse.

You're right - that story is worth hearing. I'm so sorry that it was such a crazy experience, but I'm glad you are settled now. I'm not only impressed that you are unpacked, but you even have decorations on your walls. WOW! I hope you love your new home!

What a crazy story! There are many reasons why Ethan and I flew to Ohio while poor Jon and his bro drove all of our belongings to Ohio!
Glad that you made it safely! UMMMMM..I can't believe that you have already decorated your walls! What a WOMEN!

Holy smokes, what a story!! I am so glad everything worked out okay and that you're now finally settled into your new place. And thanks for your really nice comments on my blog, too... I have loved meeting up with some of the old ward members! Oh, and guess what- I've found you an awesome photographer that lives right where you do, and her prices are great, too! She's amazing, though I'll warn ya that she's scheduled to have a baby next week so it may be a little bit. Anyway, here's her website:

P.S. Scott's just started looking for jobs and we've really got our fingers crossed for one just a little bit from you in Castle Rock. :)
